An African Home

This is a little something that I did today. It's a home for a family in Niger Delta, Nigeria.

The idea behind it that each room, the roof canopy, the stilts, and the mechanical systems unit/cistern are all prefabricated units that could be easily shipped to the site and assembled with minimal effort. Making the home comfortable in its tropical climate was is the primary objective The walls are spaced apart wooden boards to maximize ventilation. Additionally the roof canopy is elevated off the rooms to provide a ventilation plenum/double roof. The canopy is shaped to collect water which is deposited into a cistern, giving the residents an off grid water supply
